The country is beginning to get Olympic fever and for the events world ‘legacy’ will be the watchword in the coming months and years. But, what of other venues that have benefited from the Olympic effect? Vancouver is one of our favourite destinations and here’s an update following a recent event there.
The multi-billion dollar investment in Vancouver has inevitably ensured many lasting benefits for the conference and incentive market. Infrastructure, facilities and access to the ‘real’ Canada has ensured this popular destination is now firmly on the top long-haul destination list. It is simply ‘wow’ from the moment you touchdown to the moment you leave. Vancouver has real character, is modern and alternative in equal measure, and on its doorstep is an abundance of wildlife, experiences and activities unequalled anywhere. Where else would you greet a black bear when leaving the bar at 2am and be able to golf and ski in the same day!?
Seven Reasons why Vancouver Rocks!
It’s THE place for green, soft-eco groups
Whales, bears, lakes, sea, mountains, snow, forests. All within touching distance for incentive travel and conference groups. The options are endless, limited only by imagination (and budget!). Canada is the primary candidate for groups wanting to see the real world and put something back without sacrificing luxury and standards. In a way it’s no surprise that Greenpeace was founded there.
It’s always open – summer or winter, day or night
There is never any excuse for downtime! Vancouver and its surroundings are so diverse, so exciting and unique that the biggest challenge for any group is to figure out when to sleep! And as Canada's gateway to Asia it is a vibrant and sensual melting pot that, being Canada, is also very safe.
The activity opportunities are unique & breath-taking
Add to the pull of nature all that Vancouver can offer as a city, and the world of snow and you have a blank canvas for creating unique incentive and conference experiences. Luxury lodges on lakes, fishing, floatplanes and frontiers, whales, wilderness and even wine? Adrenaline junkies and fresh air fiends are spoilt for choice, but so also are those who prefer a less edgy natural experience and all within Vancouver itself.
Facilities – match anywhere in the world
Condé Nast cites the Fairmont, Shangri-La, Opus, Pan Pacific and Metropolitan Hotels among the world’s best. Vancouver has such variety of hotel and restaurant product that it literally caters for all. Transport is first class, transfers easy and swift, and going from hotel to experience is more often minutes than hours - the Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler is a spectacular, easy and breathtaking drive.
Value – always has been a great value option
The Olympic investment has blessed Vancouver with more variety and better standards for accommodation, dining and activities than pretty much anywhere I can think of. ‘Cheap’ is not evident, but value is, and the full 5* treatment is within most budgets we work with. The one great legacy of the Olympics has been the increase in capacity, which means there are great negotiated deals to be had for incentive travel and conference groups of all sizes, all times of the year.
Access Virgin territory
Vancouver is a ‘short’ ten hour direct flight away. Now options for incentive and conference events are better than ever with Virgin Atlantic opening its route in May. Great for groups, very flexible and accommodating, we love Virgin because they simply ‘get our market’. With four flights per week the timings are ideal for building programmes around. And when you’re there – everything is a short journey away, and one of the big advantages for Whistler over Banff is that because Whistler is not in a National Park the activity infrastructure is much more varied.
Lastly, Canada is simply just 'WOW'
Unique, stimulating and utterly memorable. It literally takes your breath away. To get a feel for what Vancouver can offer we've popped a few images into a little album.
