So, after a month of receiving perhaps some of the strangest, awe-inspiring and downright questionable images of our colleague’s experiences, as well as a contrast of some of the most delicious things we could imagine being submitted by our hotel partners, our BI Worldwide food festival with a twist has come to a close and we have a winner.
Our congratulations go to the Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul whose raspberry chocolate mousse bowl with cabernet and anistar sauce and Mövenpick passion fruit & mango ice cream tickled our taste buds and earned our votes. This was the Valentine's Day dessert of 2012 prepared by Italian Executive Chef Giovanni Terracciano. Project Director, Rob Bagust, said of the entry, “a great combination of ingredients and stunning presentation of a special dish for a special occasion…”
We also have three runners up that had to have a special mention because their dishes were so wonderful as well. These were:
- Gleneages - Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles - Home Smoked Lobster. The essence of simplicity. Sourced from Scrabster on Scotland’s rugged Northern tip. The lobster shells are smoked for five hours over oak shavings taken from Islay whisky casks. The meat is returned to the shell and lightly roasted, then finished with warm lime butter sauce and soft green herbs, roughly snipped at the last minute.
- Gravetye Manor - Beetroot cured “Glenarm” Salmon, with beetroot infused horseradish cream and sorrel leaf sorbet Served on a squid ink tapioca crisp
- Icon Hong Kong - Steamed Crab Meat and Shrimp Dumpling. This is an independent and brand new hotel in Kowloon, which was part designed by Sir Terence Conran and has won many accoldates since its opening. It is located within easy reach of the island and has breathtaking views across Victoria Harbour. Hotel ICON features the Silverbox Ballroom, a truly spectacular event space.
It was such a delight to receive so many entries, and it truly was extremely difficult to choose the winners. In fact, it took our entire events team as well as the sales and marketing team to finally come to a decision!
It’s great integrating with our global event partners and suppliers like this, and it really opens up our worlds and brings them closer to our clients and prospects.
I hope you’ve enjoyed having a look at all the wonderful, as well as weird, dishes that have populated our Food Festival Pinterest board - I know what to look out for, and also politely ignore now, I hope you do to. Be sure to keep an eye out for more competitions and engaging items that we run.
