BI WORLDWIDE's exclusive tour around Singapore Airlines

BI WORLDWIDE's team of event management professionals recently visited Singapore Airlines at London Heathrow Airport for an exclusive VIP tour of the lounge and A380 Airbus.

As a valued partner of BI WORLDWIDE, Singapore Airlines is renowned for its excellent level of service and passionate crew who always go the extra mile for their customers. In 2016, Singapore Airlines received an award for ‘Best Cabin Crew’ at the Business Traveller Awards and it goes without saying; the service they provide is impeccable.

BI WORLDWIDE’s events team took a look behind the scenes at Singapore Airlines and what it takes to deliver a six star service. The purpose of the visit was for the team to immerse themselves within the brand, understand their products, and gain full knowledge of the services available that could be beneficial to share with clients.

Having recently used Singapore Airlines for a client event, Ged Mills who is a Group Aviation Project Manager at BI WORLDWIDE, found the airline to be a great partner to work with and made the project a lot easier to manage. Ged comments: “For a recent client event to Singapore we booked and managed 530 airline seats. The majority of these seats were contracted through Singapore Airlines and they epitomised the six-star service we aim for whilst working with our key airline partners. They offered us huge amounts of flexibility, together with great cost savings, making sure we were able to deliver the flight element of this event to the highest possible standards. We would not hesitate in working with Singapore Airlines for any future events!”

Lounge VIP style

The tour began with a look around the Singapore Airlines Lounge. The Lounge is exclusive to First Class, Business Class and frequent card-member flyers and offers a VIP and comfy alternative before boarding a long-haul flight.

The Lounge is split into two areas; First Class and Business Class and seats up to 158 people. Both Lounges have an open plan layout, keeping it light and airy, offering lots of comfy seats for passengers to sit back and relax. Well known for attracting passengers for its ‘Singapore Sling’ flavoured ice cream and popcorn, the Lounge offers relaxation, food and beverages and everything else you need before flying.

The First Class Lounge offers a personalised restaurant-style service from the moment passengers walk in and even offers the option of choosing a delicious à la carte meal. Singapore Airlines has previously held champagne and caviar events within the First Class Lounge and as a standard, passengers are given a hot towel upon arrival, a welcome drink and access to an exclusive drinks menu which includes the signature ‘Singapore Sling’ cocktail.

The Business Class Lounge is a slightly bigger space and offers passengers a freshly prepared buffet and drinks from the ‘Hydration Centre’ that contains all natural juices packed with vitamins, which are perfect for rejuvenating before a long flight.

For small event groups looking to sit and dine together within the Lounge, there is an area called the ‘Gallery’ which seats up to 16 delegates. This is the ideal chill-out area for enjoying a beverage or snack and is designed so delegates can set up laptops or print in there if they need to.

BI WORLDWIDE’s Events Administration Manager Helen Parker comments on her experience: “It was very informative to understand what Singapore Airlines can offer to our delegates to enhance their overall experience.”

Time to visit the Singapore Airlines A380 Airbus

The Events team were then given a tour of the newer aircraft A380 Airbus which departs from London to Singapore four times a day.

The A380 is split into four areas; First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy. All areas of the A380 Airbus offer the best level of service from the cabin crew and gives passengers a much more enjoyable, quieter and comfortable flying experience. All passengers have access to Krisworld Flight Entertainment as well.

First Class has 12 ‘Suites’ which are designed to be spacious and offer comfy chairs with flat beds with a blind for privacy. Sleep suits are provided as well as an a la carte menu to choose from. The Business Class offers 84 passenger seats which are wider reclining chairs that turn into a fully flat bed. Premium Economy offers passengers an extra 6 inches in seat room in comparison to the Economy.

The team got to explore the cockpit and see where the pilots sleep when they’re off-duty.

They seem to put customer service and comfort above all else and the added extras they offer such as Changi dollar voucher, and complimentary special occasion cakes just supports these values showing they go that extra mile to think about their customers as individuals.”

It is without a doubt the BI WORLDWIDE team learnt a lot from visiting Singapore Airlines. The crew are incredibly passionate about their jobs and this certainly shows in the level of six-star service they provide for their customers and partners.
