Last weekend four members of the BI WORLDWIDE events team were transformed into the 'Boules La La' boules team for the grand finale of a boules competition in Monte Carlo hosted by AlliedPRA Monaco, Hosmark and MONTE-CARLO SBM. This was the conclusion of nationwide heats where events companies battled their boules off for a chance to compete in Monaco’s most exclusive district.
Surprises all round
A relaxed lawn game and a fast-paced Formula 1 city may not initially seem to have much in common, but it turns out that both are easily underestimated. Monaco is the second smallest state in the world and preconceptions tend to assume that it’s a two day destination. However, once reacquainted, our team found that Monaco is a varied and flexible destination. The city itself is stunning; the team saw and recorded this first hand during the weekend on their photography treasure hunt; where teams recorded sights, statues and scenery. Their photos, along with those of the other finalists will soon be featured on the Hosmark blog. As we know there is more to the Monaco experience than sightseeing. Situated atop the Med and very close to Italy and the South of France, it is perhaps the first class choice for conferences or incentive travel. During their visit, our team visited the beautiful medieval town of Eze in France which added an extra dimension to the visit, hassle-free.
Boules La La
Although our team had no prior boules experience, aside from a crushing victory in the national round, they enlisted some expert guidance from Milton Keynes boules coach Eric Brown from Milton Keynes Petanque Club. This, coupled with their experience in Monaco, has created four fully-fledged converts to the sport, which is a relaxing, social and surprisingly addictive activity. Boules can even be dragged into the twenty-first century with an iPhone app which makes it even more accessible. The moral of this story seems to be ‘don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it!’ The team recommend giving boules, and Monte Carlo, a go!
