Tee off at Turnberry

Fairmont, St Andrews:

A personal favourite of mine, Fairmont, St Andrews is a fantastic five-star option for the C&I market, and purpose built for the industry.

The hotel's conference facilities deliver a broad range of function rooms and Fairmont, St Andrews can boast the title of largest resort hotel conference facility. The hotel will also consider buy-outs depending on availability and time of year which is a fantastic option for events with a large audience.

The golf isn't too bad either! Home to two renowned World Championship courses, and was voted in the Condé Nast Traveller readers' poll as 18th in the World's Top 100 Golf Resorts – it won't disappoint even the keenest golfer.

Gleneagles, Perthshire

This hotel and resort also offers the five-star experience. With fantastic conference facilities for anything from 45 – 450 delegates, you can host a large conference with breakout sessions and seminars too. An additional benefit is that it's a stone's throw from the train station which not only provides another transport option but enables event planners, at least those with ample budget, to charter the Orient Express for that extra special touch.

It is considered one of the Great Golf Resorts of the World, and I can see why! Three stunning courses, plus a nine-hole 'warm-up' course means you'll be spoilt for choice. Gleneagles will host the 40th Ryder Cup Matches in 2014 which will not only provide a boost in investment but will make the course one that enthusiasts will want to experience.

Turnberry, Ayrshire

Just an hour from Edinburgh on the Ayrshire coast this hotel has three spectacular golf courses to choose from. Turnberry has hosted four Open Championships, the last in 2009, so you're guaranteed to enjoy some great golf whatever your standard.

Its meeting space is perfect for smaller, more intimate, meetings. However the main meeting room can host up to 300 people in a seated format – a nice option for a gala dinner.
