The perfect proposals – Valentine's Day special

There are many beautiful destinations ideal for the perfect romantic escape for Valentine’s Day. We asked our passionate team of event experts to get down on one knee and tell us their favourite proposals.

From tying romance into an event…

Valentine’s Day is often an occasion of which event organisers are cautious. As Events Design Manager, Katrina Rannard explains: “Depending on a client’s requirements, we try and avoid planning events on Valentine’s Day - especially if they exclude partners. When we have hosted events on the day with couples, we’ve incorporated romantic gestures such as petals on the bed and leisure time activities. Most hotels even offer a concierge bath service – very sophisticated!”

…to tying the knot on an event!

However, as Katrina continues, the events can sometimes provide the perfect backdrop for a special day: “A few years ago, we hosted a partnered Sales Manager incentive programme in Mauritius. We were notified that a couple were going to take advantage of the gorgeous location and had combined the business event with a wedding and honeymoon!”

One event in particular organised over Valentine’s was in Las Vegas. Events Client Relationship Director, Mark Taylor shares more: “We took a group of about 50 people, including partners, to Las Vegas. To celebrate that the event was over Valentine’s, we located the hospitality desk outside the Wedding Chapel. Guests could watch the various ceremonies throughout the day if they wanted to in their free time.  Each couple was given a bouquet of flowers from the group as a gift.”

A lust for lush

Project Manager, Amy Jo Brown shares: “The Banyan Tree in Riviera Mayan, Mexico, is a beautiful location, especially for romantics. The resort has lots of villas which give couples the privacy they need. There are also plenty of relaxing activities you can do, including a privately run bath, as well as enjoying spa treatments together. Couples can enjoy romantic activities such as travelling along the canal in a private boat through the jungle whilst savouring delicious cuisine.”

Excursions for the wild at heart

Project Executive, Teresa Allen loves an African safari event and recommends excursions for the more adventurous. “I’ve been on a number of safaris and there’s so much you can do. One particular flight of fancy is a hot air balloon ride over the game reserve at sunrise, complete with Champagne and strawberries - it’s the perfect way to view the stunning panorama and herds of animals.

Teresa continues: “I can vouch for the fact that there’s nothing more memorable than hearing lions roar at night! There’s nothing better than a night in the wild under the stars in a luxury treehouse. You can enjoy a private candlelit dinner and appreciate African cuisine created by the talented lodge chefs. It’s highly romantic and the perfect setting for a proposal.”

Another wild card destination is Arizona, a state in the US south-west. It’s a particular favourite of Operations Director, Rachael Belliere-Wilson: “Take a ride across the desert and enjoy a glass of Champagne by a campfire and kick back under the big sunset sky – very stunning.”

Rome is where the heart is – plus more!

Call it clichéd, but how can we list romantic destinations without mentioning Rome, Paris, and Venice? They’re all iconic cities that can melt the coldest of hearts.

Speaking about the latter, Project Manager, Eve Lawrence comments: “You can’t go to Venice without going on a private operatic gondola ride with Champagne and roses!”

The heart of London

Maybe surprisingly, London is also considered a romantic city. Design Manager, Michelle Clarke recommends her favourite cocktail and Champagne bars in London: “For those who don’t wish to travel far, a night in London can be equally as glamourous and romantic. The Purple Bar at the Sanderson, for example, is very beautifully designed and offers an intimate atmosphere with its chic and purple interior.

“The Champagne bar in Andaz is also a superb place to try a number of different Champagne beverages with its sophistication and location in the heart of London.”
